Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is a massive volcanic caldera formed over two million years ago when a large volcano erupted and collapsed upon itself. The resulting crater forms a natural amphitheater, measuring approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) in diameter and 600 meters (2,000 feet) deep. It is one of the largest intact calderas in the world. The crater's diverse habitats, including grasslands, forests, lakes, and swamps, support a remarkable array of wildlife. The crater is home to an estimated 25,000 large animals, including elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and black rhinos. It is often referred to as the "Eden of Africa" due to its abundance of wildlife.
